FOUNTAIN, Colo. — One person has died following a two-vehicle crash Monday morning near Mesa Ridge High School, according to the Fountain Police Department.
The accident, which shut down westbound Highway 16, resulted in four people being transported to medical facilities, two with serious injuries. One of the passengers was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. Authorities confirmed that no students were involved in the crash.
All westbound lanes of Highway 16 were reopened by 3:27 p.m. on Monday. The FPD Major Crash Unit has taken over the investigation. This marks the first traffic-related fatality in Fountain for 2026.
