SHASTA COUNTY, California — A 5-year-old boy has tragically died after drowning in Shasta Lake, authorities confirmed.
According to the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred Monday at Turntable Bay when the child entered the water without wearing a life jacket and disappeared beneath the surface before his parents could assist him.
Emergency responders, including deputies, CAL FIRE, the U.S. Forest Service, and California Highway Patrol Air Operations, responded to the scene around 11:22 a.m.
After an extensive search, the boy’s body was located and recovered by the Shasta County Dive Team at approximately 12:33 p.m.
Officials stated that no foul play is suspected. Authorities also emphasized the dangers of cold water conditions, noting how quickly situations can turn tragic, even during routine outings.
The identity of the child has not yet been released.
The heartbreaking incident serves as a reminder of the importance of water safety, including the use of properly fitted life jackets, especially for young children.
