OURAY COUNTY, Colo. — A 34-year-old man died Monday evening in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 550 south of Ridgway, while two others were injured and taken to local hospitals.
The collision involved a Dodge Caravan and a Ford F350 hauling a trailer and occurred around 5:33 p.m. The driver of the Caravan was pronounced dead at the scene. The Ouray County Coroner’s Office will release his identity once next of kin are notified.
A 12-year-old girl, a passenger in the Caravan, was airlifted to a local hospital, while a 74-year-old woman in the car was transported by ground ambulance. Their current conditions have not been disclosed. The driver of the Ford F350 reported no injuries.
The Colorado State Patrol’s Vehicular Crimes Unit is leading the investigation. The cause of the crash has not yet been determined. U.S. Highway 550 was closed in both directions for several hours following the collision.
