DENVER, Colorado — A 19-year-old man has died following a shooting in Denver’s Windsor neighborhood, in what police say may have stemmed from a dispute over money.
According to the Denver Police Department, officers responded around 12 p.m. Thursday to a report of a shooting in the 10100 block of East Virginia Avenue. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
Authorities have since arrested 19-year-old Daniel Villegas in connection with the incident. He is being held on suspicion of first-degree murder.
Investigators say the suspect and victim were known to each other, and preliminary findings suggest the shooting may have been related to a financial dispute involving money allegedly owed.
The Aurora Police Department assisted in the investigation, including the use of automated license plate readers and surveillance footage to identify and locate the suspect.
The identity of the victim has not yet been publicly released.
The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the fatal shooting.
